In this paper I would like to consider the differences between Luck and Faith in God.
Luck is the religion of mankind who does not believe in God. It results from alternating positive and negative circumstances. It is rooted in fear. Fear that our good things and enjoyable comforts may suddenly be lost. Fear that bad things may happen. Therefore when we are talking about something we love that has always been consistent we say, "It has always been this way... touch wood" or "My health has always been good... touch wood." And they do. Finding they nearest piece of wood they lay a finger or hand on it. Why? For fear that the good thing they just mentioned will be lost or will change. Fear of loss.
Luck, unlike a faith or trust in God, has no person associated with it. This is why people say it is not a religion. But it is because they give honor to it and fear it. Luck by it's very nature is capricious and fickle because it is based on nothing more than changing circumstances.
Now consider trusting in God and His goodness. Consider that all He does is motivated by care for His creatures and love for them. Circumstances come and go. Some are good and some are bad. God does not control every event in our lives. Yet He asks us to invited Him to be involved in the events of our lives through prayer. He does not define exactly how He will be involved. Sometimes He delivers us from painful circumstances. Sometimes He walks through painful circumstances with us. Sometimes He delivers us instantly and at other times it is progressive and bit by bit. He chooses which way He does it based on His care and love for us. What is really hurting us? How can this truly be healed? Often the outward circumstances can hide deeper and more threatening problems that only God can see.
Here is one of many differences between Luck and Trusting God. Luck capriciously allows you to experience good or bad circumstances. Luck has no control over them and no involvement with you in them. God lives with you through circumstances. He suffers with you though the bad one... just like Jesus suffered with (and for) humanity on the cross after we had rejected God in the Garden of Eden and chosen to follow Satan's advice and ways. Thus we destroyed our very souls. But God became a man and suffered with us and for us .... and produced a way of deliverance for us through the forgiveness purchased at the cross.
He will use negative circumstances for our good to grow us up into noble and honorable men and women full of the fruit of the Spirit (Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Meekness and Self-control). He does this even if our negative circumstances are created by us, others, random circumstances or Satan. As he did on the cross He suffers with us and delivers us at the same time. During part of this process we are bonded to Him realizing that He alone cares for our souls and He alone can bring us to a healthy existence.
Conclusion
God uses all things, whether good or bad, to grow us and make us strong and caring men and women. He suffers with us through the painful events in life and enjoys with us the wonderful events in life. Luck, by contrast, has no involvement with us at all - yet many people insist on giving Luck their acknowledgement and respect. Luck is generally based on fear that if you don't do something (i.e. touch wood) then you could loss things or circumstances that you love.
